FC Dallas continued its preseason camp in Portugal with a 5-2 win over Brondby IF’s U-19 squad. The match was part of the Atlanta Cup preseason tournament in Portugal, which FC Dallas earned its first three points in with the win.

Sebastian Ibeagha scored a goal off a Chris Cappis corner kick in the first half. Logan Farrington scored two second half goals, while Herman Johansson and Nicholas Simmonds scored their first goals in a Dallas uniform.

Dallas will wrap up their preseason camp in Portugal with a match against MLS rivals Real Salt Lake on Friday.

Notes:

If you were lucky to watch the stream for this one from Brondby IF, good on you. I had this one on in the background for the majority of the game while I was working today. Here are a few things that stood out to me with this result:

Playing some kids: Brondby used their first team earlier in the day in a match against Real Salt Lake. So, against FC Dallas they used their U19 squad. Say what you will about playing a U19 squad, but getting some nice chemistry built is what you want in a match like this.

Logan Farrington bicycle kick?: Holy crap. I did not have that on my preseason bingo card for this trip. Hell of a strike there by Logan, who appears to be in good form already this year.

Rotation at fullback: There had been some talk about potentially moving rookie forward Ricky Louis to fullback when he was draft last month, and today we got our first look at him in that spot. He seemed solid at getting forward and was unlucky not to score his second goal of the preseason, too. The real interesting one for me was seeing Sam Sarver in the second half at fullback. This tells me that Eric Quill is looking to sort out his depth at those spots with moves like this.

Trialist keeper: Most eagle-eyed folks will wonder why Maarten Paes didn’t appear in the second half of this one. Yeah, your guess is as good as mine. I’m hoping the club will shed some light on that, but I would assume we’ll see him later his week against RSL. As for the guy who took his place, I was told his name is Mitch Butler. He is a former Akron keeper, but from what I could find online, he went undrafted in last month’s SuperDraft.
