FC Dallas forward Louicius Don Deedson scored the game-winning goal for Haiti in a 2-0 victory over Nicaragua. The win officially qualified the Caribbean nation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, its first since 1974.
Deedson opened the scoring for Haiti in the ninth minute with a fantastic solo effort.
Haiti entered the final round of qualifying matches needing a victory and Honduras to lose or draw to qualify automatically as the first-place finisher in Group C of Concacaf World Cup qualifying. Honduras ended up drawing their game with Costa Rica.
Haiti went on to win their group in CONCACAF qualifying despite not playing a single home game. As the island nation has been dealing with widespread gang violence, national team has played its "home" matches in neighboring countries to ensure safety. Tuesday night's World Cup-clinching win took place at Stadion Ergilio Hato in Willemstad, Curaçao.
Deedson has appeared in 10 games for Haiti during the country’s World Cup qualification. The 24-year old joined FC Dallas during the summer transfer window and appeared in two games, playing 21 minutes.
