All good things have to end at some point. FC Dallas saw its unbeaten road record come to an end on Saturday night after a 5-0 loss to expansion side San Diego FC.

The loss was FC Dallas’ first on the road this season after going 3-0-3 in road games up until this point.

San Diego got started early in the first half thanks to a penalty kick earned in the 20th minute when Ramiro ran into Alex Mighten at the top of the penalty area. Hirving Lozano stepped up and slipped a shot under Maarten Paes.

Less than seven minutes later, Lozano doubled his tally for the night off a long pass from Andres Dreyer. San Diego played the ball quickly up the field on a pair of long passes before Dreyer got the ball in the Dallas defensive third and played a ball to the top the penalty area for Lozano. The Mexican international took one touch around Paes and then fired a shot into the back of the net.

Ten minutes into the second half, San Diego drove down through the Dallas defense once again as Lozano set up Dreyer for the three goal lead.

In the 73rd minute, San Diego added a fourth goal as Dreyer and Lozano hooked up again outside the peantly area. Dreyer got the ball in the middle of the penalty area with enough space to take a shot of his own but opted to lay it off to Onni Valakari, who ripped a shot that hit off the crossbar and bounced just barely over the line.

Late in the match, San Diego added a fifth with a goal from Milan Iloski found space in behind the Dallas defense and easily beat Paes at the far post.

Instant Reaction: Let's just say, the 3-4-3 formation was not 'the one' here for FC Dallas tonight. It worked in Miami, but as we saw last season, this roster doesn't have the right pieces to make it work every week. San Diego used their speed and stretched out the defense for each of their goals on the night.

This kind of result just tells you this could be a very long month for FC Dallas.

About the Subs: Shortly after the hour mark, Eric Quill made a triple sub with Bernard Kamungo, Patrickson Delgado and Show coming on for Kaick, Logan Farrington and Pedrinho. With around 11 minutes to go, Quill pulled a double sub with Tarik Scott and Tsiki Ntsabeleng came on for Anderson Julio and Ramiro.

Man of the Match: Yeah, we're going to take a pass on this tonight.

Where does this fit into the season: This will see FC Dallas drop down the standings a bit. As of the final whistle, FC Dallas is now in 8th place with 15 points.

What’s next for FC Dallas: After three straight road games, FC Dallas begins a busy stretch when they host AV Alta FC in the Round of 32 of the US Open Cup on Wednesday night in Frisco. Following that, they’ll stay at home to host Real Salt Lake on Saturday night.
