FC Dallas secured its second win away from home in 2025, doubling the total from a season ago, as they downed Real Salt Lake 1-0.
Lucho Acosta missed a penalty kick midway through the first half but was able to redeem himself with a goal scored right before the halftime whistle.
Real Salt Lake pushed the tempo early in the match but in the 23rd minute, the momentum shifted to Dallas' direction after Ariath Piol was issued a straight red card for a tough tackle on Patrickson Delgado. The center official stopped play while Delgado was down to review the challenge with the video replay officials. After a minute of deliberation, Piol was sent off.
Ten minutes later, an RSL defender Brayan Vera fouled Acosta in the penalty box, resulting in the game's first big moment. The former MLS MVP stepped up to take the shot but his attempt was saved by RSL keeper Rafael Cabral.
Dallas continues to push for a go-ahead goal before the halftime break. That moment finally came five minutes into stoppage time as Petar Musa pushed the ball wide to Shaq Moore, who sent in a ball to the back post where Acosta was there to head it past Cabral.
Musa nearly doubled the Dallas lead five minutes into the second half. Tsiki Ntsabeleng sent a ball into the near post that Musa attempted to flick on with his foot to the back post, but the ball sailed wide of the goal.
In the 73rd minute, Acosta found the ball at the top of the penalty box. He sent a small lob over the RSL defense to the run of Marco Farfan. The Dallas fullback put in a hard one-time shot that rattled off the post.
Instant Reaction: Dealing with a team that picks up an early red card at home like that can be tough a times to battle through the emotions. Dallas did a well to stay composed following the red card and the penalty miss by Acosta. They kept pushing and battling for goals and while they only got the one, it was enough. Crazy to think that this group has seven points from road games already in 2025.
About the Subs: Eric Quill only went to his bench three times in this match. The first sub came in after halftime as Tsiki Ntsabeleng came on for Delgado. Quill went back to his bench in the 66th minute to bring on Logan Farrington for Leo Chu. And in the final minutes of the match, Lalas Abubakar came on for Sebastian Lletget.
Man of the Match: While Acosta was pulling the strings in the attack, Homegrown keeper Michael Collodi earned his first start and had the club's first shutout of the season.
Where does this fit into the season: We're five weeks into the season now and this result sees FC Dallas move back up the table a bit, back to seventh place. The two road wins on the season are double what they picked up in 2024.
What’s next for FC Dallas: The club returns home to finish up the month of March with a meeting against Sporting Kansas City.
