FC Dallas looks for its first win ever in Harrison, New Jersey tonight when they take on the New York Red Bulls in the 2025 US Open Cup Round of 16.
Both teams have their lineups in, so let’s discuss them ahead of tonight’s match.
Quick thoughts
This is nearly what I was thinking Eric Quill would go with tonight in this match. A strong lineup that resembled what he used against Houston last week.
The bigger change is seeing Maarten Paes return from his stomach bug in goal. He’ll have a defense that sees Shaq Moore and Nolan Norris on the wings, with Lalas Abubakar (I’m here for that change over Sebastien Ibeagha) and Osaze Urhoghide.
The midfield will continue to have Kaick and Ramiro hold down the defensive side with Lucho Acosta in the attacking side of things. Bernard Kamungo and Anderson Julio will be split out on the wings with Petar Musa up top.
Who is on the bench?
Open Cup rosters are a bit smaller than regular season matches. Quill has Michael Collodi, Marco Farfan, Tsiki Ntsabeleng, Sebastien Ibeagha, Paxton Pomykal, Pedrinho and Logan Farrington.
Who we could see off the bench
Because of the smaller bench, there is a solid chance we see most of this bench at some point thanks to Saturday’s game in Seattle. The bigger question could come down to who comes on for who in this one. I think we’ll still see Musa play limited minutes, with 60 sounding about right for him tonight. Farrington will likely come on for him. Pomykal should also see extended minutes, and possibly so could Farfan.
Then I think Pedrinho and Ntsbaeleng are options should this game go into overtime.
