FC Dallas can lock up El Capitan and the Texas Derby for another season on Saturday as they host the Houston Dynamo.

The two sides met earlier this season, with FC Dallas coming out on top in a 2-1 win to begin the 2025 season.

Let’s dive into some notes, predictions and more.

🏆
How to win the Derby
Thanks to FCD’s win in February, FCD holds the advantage in the Texas Derby and will win the series over Houston with either a win or a draw on Saturday.

The only way for Houston to win is by winning on Saturday by more than two goals.

If the Dynamo win by one goal, the series would be tied and, as the current holders, Dallas would keep El Capitan next season unless the clubs were to meet in the U.S. Open Cup or MLS Cup playoffs to break the tie.

FC Dallas Notes:

Key player for FC Dallas: Lucho Acosta - At some point, you have to think he'll break out of this current funk and begin to lead this team. Against a rival like Houston, that is the perfect time to do it.

All-time at home vs Houston: FC Dallas has done very well over the years against the Dynamo at Toyota Stadium, going 11-3-9. FCD is also unbeaten at home against the Dynamo since 2011.

Homegrown clock: The Homegrown minutes are starting to tick up again as Paxton Pomykal returned to action and Tarik Scott picking up some late game experience lately. Along with what Michael Collodi and Nolan Norris have earned, the season total is up to 589 minutes.

Notable season stats:

  • Osaze Urhoghide is third in MLS in aerial challenges won with 39.
  • Urhoghide is tied for first across MLS in aerial challenges won
    without ball control with 33.
  • Urhoghide is tied second in goals scored from freekicks with one.
  • Anderson Julio leads MLS alongside Tani Oluwaseyi, Anders Dreyer
and Martin Ojeda in goals scored on counterattack with two.
  • Léo Chú has the fastest speed recorded for FC Dallas this season at
35.3 KPH/21.9 MPH ranking No. 11 in MLS.
  • Shaq Moore is tied for 11th in MLS in clearances with 19.
