FC Dallas has transferred Homegrown goalkeeper Antonio Carrera to Club Tigres UANL of Liga MX, the club announced today.
The deal is reportedly worth up to a $1 million, though sources to Big D Soccer say it is likely lower than that amount.
Carrera leaves the FC Dallas organization as one of the most accomplished goalkeepers in North Texas SC history. He appeared in 43 matches for NTSC, the most by a goalkeeper, and holds the all-time records for shutouts (9) and saves (170). He also played a key role in North Texas SC’s 2024 MLS NEXT Pro Cup championship.
Carrera joined the FC Dallas youth system in 2014 at age 10 and moved up to the FC Dallas Academy two years later. Internationally, he has represented the United States at the U-15, U-17 and U-20 levels. FC Dallas signed Carrera as its 33rd Homegrown player on Feb. 21, 2022. He made his professional debut with North Texas SC on March 26, 2022.

Quick BDS Take
Carrera is now the second Dallas Homegrown to be sold to Tigres, with fellow goalkeeper Richard Sanchez being the first over a decade ago.
The move makes a lot of sense for both sides as Carerra wasn't going to jump either Maarten Paes or Michael Collodi for the top keeper spot on the team. FC Dallas did have options in preseason to send him out on loan but opted to keep him close to keep the roster battle going with Collodi.
It will be interesting to see where the club goes for a third keeper on the depth charts. More than likely, they'll rely on short-term loans from North Texas SC for the remainder of the season.
If the reported price is anywher near correct, the club will be able to add to their general allocation money coffers pretty quickly ahead of the summer transfer window.
