On a chilly Saturday night in Frisco at Toyota Stadium, the 2026 season kicked off with FC Dallas outlasting Toronto FC in a 3-2.
Petar Musa picked up where he left off in 2025, with a two brace on the night. Logan Farrington also added a goal and an assist, continuing his upward trajectory in his third season.
FC Dallas also got debuts for Herman Johansson, who stepped into the starting eleven on the night. Ran Binyamin came off the bench in the late stages of the match to earn his first minutes in a Dallas uniform.
Key Moments
9’ - After a poor clearance by Toronto, Osaze Urhoghide slide the ball over to Musa who scored his first of the season.
15’ - Djorde Mihailovic tied it up for the Reds after a bad give away around midfield by Dallas. Urhoghide mistimed a clearance as Jonathan Osorio played a perfect through ball into Mihailovic in the penalty area.
28‘ - Toronto was knocking on the door again in the Dallas penalty area. One Toronto player got the ball inside the penalty area, but Michael Collodi forced him to play the ball back to the top of the penalty area, where Osorio was there to hit a shot that went over the goal.
38’ - Dallas regained the lead on Farrington’s first goal of the season. Musa played a long ball out of his defensive end up the field to Farrington. Former FCD defender Walker Zimmerman had a poor clearance that Farrington took advantage of to get inside the penalty box. He then made one cut back to make another defender miss before firing a shot past Luka Gavran.
67’ - Toronto tied things up on a goal from Derrick Etienne. Collodi saved an initial shot from Daniel Solloi, but the Homegrown keeper was unable to keep the ball in front of him on the save as Etienne swooped in to finish off the goal.
74’ - Musa added his second of the night off a header from Farrington.

Instant Reaction
This was about as nervy of a season opener as you might expect. The connection between Musa and Farrington is going very strong into its third season. The way they connected on the third goal is hopefully something we see a lot more of this season.
On the other end of things, the defensive side had some struggles and moments looked a bit off. Some of that came down to organization and reactions to turnovers. But, these are moments the club can clean up and improve on as the season goes.
About the Subs
Shortly after the second Toronto goal, Eric Quill went to his bench for the first time this season to bring on Patrickson Delgado and Deedson, for Herman Johansson and Kaick. In the 82nd minute, Anderson Julio came on for Farrington. In the second minute of stoppage time, Ran Binyamin made his debut when he subbed in for Chris Cappis.
Man of the Match
With two goals on the night, the easy choice is Petar Musa.
Where does this fit into the season
The win keeps FC Dallas unbeaten on the early season. We have 33 more of these to go, though.
What’s next for FC Dallas
FC Dallas will remain at home to start the new season, as they host another Eastern Conference club, Nashville SC, next weekend.
