Seven games remain for FC Dallas in 2025. The playoff push for FC Dallas manager Eric Quill remains open as his club currently sits in 12th place in the MLS Western Conference, a mere five points back of San Jose who is in the final playoff spot.
One thing going for Quill is the games in hand against teams like San Jose and Colorado, who sit above them in the standings.
Last week, FC Dallas was off from league play due a schedule change for the LA Galaxy (who competed in the Leagues Cup third place game against Orlando City). The time off allowed Quill and his staff time to address all areas of the club in training ahead of the final seven game push to the playoffs.
“Using the time to work through all phases of the game,” explained Quill. “Week to week, you don’t get that time to hit every phase. I wanted to make sure we were making gains in every area of the field. We did that. The guys did great. I like were we sit at the moment.”
Up first in the final seven games this weekend is a trip to Missouri to face St. Louis CITY SC. The hosts are coming off a 3-2 loss last weekend, their third straight game giving up three goals. Quill expects the home side to make some adjustments, while he hopes his team can find a way to strike first.
“They’re probably going to try to make adjustments and they’re at home,” said Quill. “For us, we have to be ultra aggressive. Against a team that has been struggling defensively, you want to be sure you score the first goal. That is one of the things you can do for yourself is create doubt and not concede first. Playing well on the road keeps a great crowd out of the game.”
Energizer Park is a venue that FC Dallas has yet to pick up a win at since St. Louis joined MLS a couple of years ago. In all competitions, FC Dallas is 0-2-1 against CITY in Missouri.
FC Dallas enters Saturday's match on a three-game unbeaten run with the last two matches ending in a 1-1 draw. But as the playoffs draw near, there is really only one thing that Quill is focused on.
"Points, not ties, we need three points," emphasized Quill.
