Building Momentum: FC Dallas Looking to Stay Front-Footed Against St. Louis

Eric Quill and Shaq Moore discuss FC Dallas’ confidence following a big 4-0 win on the road in D.C., and the mindset going into Saturday’s conference game against St. Louis.

Fresh off a dominant 4-0 road win over D.C. United, FC Dallas returns home this weekend with their confidence building, as well as the expectations rising for the group. But if there’s one thing head coach Eric Quill and defender Shaq Moore made clear this weekend, it’s that nobody inside the Dallas locker room is getting carried away just yet.

Because, scoring four goals and pitching a shutout on the road will make you feel like you are unstoppable real quick. The trick? Not getting so overconfident that you end up overlooking your next opponent.

Quill emphasized that the team’s confidence is rooted in tangible progress, not just results. The win in D.C. wasn’t a fluke or a smash-and-grab performance. It was built on execution at both ends of the field, something Dallas has been striving for as the season continues to take shape.

“We reflect on every game,” Quill explained on Thursday. “There were a lot of positives in that game. Obviously, scoring four goals gives confidence, but the shutout as well. On both sides of the ball, we were committed. That gives you belief.”

That belief, however, comes with a leash.

Quill was quick to point out that one result doesn’t define anything in April. There’s no banner for “looked awesome on the road once in 2026,” hanging in at Toyota Stadium. The message from Quill and his staff is simple: take the good, learn from the rest, and keep stacking performances. MLS seasons are marathons after all, not sprints.

“It’s one game, and there’s a lot to go,” he said. “We didn’t set out for sixth place. We need to take the positives and build on them.”

The next step comes Saturday at home against a conference rival, St. Louis CITY SC. This is the kind of match where Dallas can turn a strong road performance into something more meaningful at the start of a three-game home stand: tangible momentum.

And if you’ve watched this team under Quill, you already know the identity he’s chasing: aggressive, proactive, and very much on the front foot in every game. No sitting back. No protecting leads like they’re made of glass. Go get the next goal and then the one after that.

That mindset doesn’t change just because they’ve back home in Frisco, either.

“We want to stay aggressive, front-footed,” Quill said. “We plan for the opponent, but it doesn’t take away from who we need to be on the night.”

Part of that equation is how the home crowd, which Quill believes can be a real asset or a difference-maker, as Dallas looks to build consistency in the early goings of the 2026 season.

“Utilize our crowd,” he added. “They give us energy. With the confidence we have at home, it makes us really powerful.”

On the field, that confidence is shared by players like Moore, who has seen firsthand how tough it can be to grind out results away from home in MLS. For him, the win in D.C. checked multiple boxes, but it’s only useful if it carries over to the next game.

“It was a big win for us,” Moore said. “We know playing on the road in MLS is always difficult, but we did a lot of things well. There’s still stuff we’re working on. We want to keep our feet on the ground and look forward to Saturday.”

That phrase “keep your feet on the ground,” might as well be printed on the locker room wall this week. Because St. Louis sits lower in the Western Conference standings, and Moore made it clear there’s no such thing as an easy game in this league.

And if you’ve been watching MLS for even a few minutes, you already know that chaos is always lurking around the corner.

“We have the utmost respect for every team,” Moore said. “Every team presents challenges. You prepare well, train well, and look to get three points at home.”

There’s also a bigger picture at play. With the next three at home before the beginning of a long nine-game road trip starting in the middle of next month that will take Dallas away from Toyota Stadium until the fall, this is the kind of match that present an opportunity for Dallas to continue to make a statement and move up the standings.

“We know if we win this weekend, it’s a big push heading towards the break,” Moore added.

FC Dallas has the momentum following two straight wins. They have confidence. They also have a clear identity starting to take shape under Quill. Now comes the hard part: proving it wasn’t just a short-term thing.

Because if they can pair that performance with a few strong results in a row at home, suddenly this isn’t just a team that is ‘improving’ in 2026. No, it means they’re cooking…on full gas, too.
