The final regular season game saw FC Dallas go on the road and pick up another win, this time against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
It was a wild 2-1 game that felt chaotic at times, which is probably what you should expect from a Decision Day game like this one.
Before we begin to get into the upcoming playoff series with the Caps, let’s break down some final stats from this game.
Whitecaps dominate despite being down a man
We knew going into the match that the Whitecaps would likely dominate the possession game and create a lot of chances. They’re good at that and it is a big reason why they’ve been so good this season.
But even with a man advantage, FC Dallas still gave up a TON of space and possession to the Whitecaps. We’re talking nearly 70% of the possession still fell to the Caps when they were down a man for nearly 80 minutes.
The final passing numbers really reflected that as well.

Team | Passes | Accurate Passes | Own Half | Opposition half | Accurate long balls | Accurate crosses |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
FC Dallas | 274 | 191 (70%) | 74 | 117 | 16 (29%) | 5 (45%) |
Vancouver | 587 | 522 (89%) | 229 | 293 | 26 (53%) | 8 (24%) |
All that to say, the playoff series with them coming up has to be approached a little differently. You won’t be ‘gifted’ (as the Caps fans will say) with a red card to one of their primary defenders that early again. I think having guys like Petar Musa, Logan Farrington and Ramiro back will change that dynamic a bit. At least, that is what I am hoping for here.
Defensively, Dallas still held on pretty strong in this one. Let’s break down the final numbers for the defense from this one.
