Our annual roster building series is back as we get ready for 2026.

The offseason is starting to pick up for FC Dallas here. We have seen the club make roster announcements, some rumors trickle in, and following their end-of-season press conference, we have an idea of where the club is going in 2026.

It is time once again for our annual roster building series for the offseason. We’ll touch base again on the roster build come January when the team is in preseason mode.

We’ll begin with the defensive portion of the roster. I’ll have a breakdown of the attacking group either later this week or early next week to round out this portion of the roster building series in the offseason.

Background information

For starters, I like to point out that the salary cap, for the 2025 season was at $5.9 million and will be moving up to $6,425,000 in 2026.

💰
MLS teams can buy down a player's salary with allocation, either of the general or targeted variety. Those ‘Garber Bucks’, as some like to call them, help bring a player's salary cap hit down.

Typically, returning players see an increase in their salary each year unless it has been agreed with the club that they make less, as in the club and player worked out a deal.

Current status and questions

Out of the gate, I’m going to lump a couple of guys in here that are technically midfielders on the roster (Kaick and Ramiro). I’m also tossing in Bernard Kamungo in this group as the club recently listed him as a defender on their roster announcements the week before Thanksgiving.

In total, Dallas currently has 15 players signed that make up this portion of the roster.

Here are some big questions I have with this group as we get closer to 2026.
