Going into the winter after the 2024 season, the big theme from FC Dallas was that they wanted to improve the defense. After all, the team gave up a lot of goals in the 2024 season and missed the playoffs.

Dallas went out and added some big pieces to the defense and the defensive midfield in the winter, but did it matter when the final numbers were tabulated?

Let’s dive in.

What should FC Dallas do this offseason: you play the GM
Think you have what it takes to be Andre Zanotta and his staff?

The main numbers

Goals Given Up: 55 - For the second year in a row, FC Dallas has given up 50-plus goals. A lot of them came in the middle part of the season when they were giving up three or four in a game.

Total opponent xG: 49.9 - Some of those games where Dallas was down a man for 70 or 80 minutes, really added to this tally.

Non-penalty xG allowed: 43.6 - If you take out the eight penalties that Dallas keepers faced, the xG numbers look a tad better.

Shots allowed: 492 - Oddly enough, this was five fewer shots faced than in 2024, and only four clubs faced more shots than FC Dallas did in 2025.

Shots on target allowed: 167 - FC Dallas was pretty middle of the pack in this category. The last two months of the season really helped this total out.

Own goals: 1 - I do find it wild that three teams gave up four OGs, and another three gave up three OGs this season.
