Today we continue our 2025 FC Dallas player recaps with a look at veteran defender Sebastien Ibeagha.

Let's breakdown the defenders stats, highlights and more from 2025.

Stat breakdown

It may be a bit of a surprise, but Ibeagha was second on the first team in minutes played in 2025 (behind Shaq Moore). He also got most of his minutes as a starter.

Name Games Played Games Started Minutes Goals Assists SOT
Sebasiten Ibeagha 33 30 2763 1 1 6

Here are some fancy graphics and charts from his 2025 season as well.

The one thing that stands out with Ibeagha is how many clearances he picked up in 2025. He is tied for 11th in clearances (52) and ended up tied (with Petar Musa) for eighth in MLS with 85 aerial challenges won.

In terms of his stats with FC Dallas in 2025, he led defenders in aerial duels (120), clearances (51), challenges (126) and aerial challenges won (85).

Highlight

Ibby only had a single goal this season, but it was a big one in the draw at FC Cincinnati.

For some reason, MLS only had a Spanish highlight of this goal available.

Will he be back in 2026?

Ibeagha is in the final year of his contract that he signed with FC Dallas a few seasons ago. The club does have an option on his deal for 2026.

Final thoughts

For those who have followed my work over the years know that I have a soft spot for a good defender in this league. I know Ibeagha has some faults, he's a bit too direct in his passing and can be a liability on the possession side of things at times or as we saw in home San Jose game, can pick up a bad red card at times.

I have a lot of respect for a veteran defender like Ibeagha. I do see his value in the locker room and in certain situations in MLS, like a playoff series. The guy does have a MLS Cup title win under his belt, which you can't say for the majority of the FCD locker room.

But, at his age (33) and his contract ($738,625 total salary in 2025), make me think it is time for FC Dallas to move on from him.

Maybe there is a way to bring him back at half of the salary he's earning and be a third or fourth option at center back, but I don't see a way forward with that in 2026.
