Sports writer Wilson Mendez is reporting that Franco Martinez of Penarol (Uruguay top flight), will be joining FC Dallas on a one year loan.

The 20-year old attacking midfielder, who can also play on the wings, was recently training in Frisco this past week.
Notice that he is wearing North Texas SC gear in the picture, this likely indicated he is not coming in to join FC Dallas, but rather the USL League One champions.
Martinez is a former Uruguay U17, who mostly played for the Penarol U19s, but has actually seen significant minutes with the senior Penarol team. Martinez has 1,100+ minutes with the senior Penarol team, spread out over a three year period, for a total of 24 appearances across all competitions.
There are unverified rumors that Martinez was actually granted a release by Penarol and has actually joined FCD on a free transfer. The fact that he barely received any minutes this past season (one start, two appearances, 95 minutes), and had a loan to a Swiss Division 3 side fall through, gives credence to those rumors. Not to mention that he is in Frisco now, which wouldn't be possible if he is on loan for next season.
This is a good sign that FC Dallas is could be close to signing a player from the North Texas SC roster, and Martinez is that player's replacement.
A good signing? Is he replacing someone on the North Texas SC roster? Let us know what you think.
