FC Dallas depth talk - defenders and keepers
As the preseason is beginning to wrap up, let's look at where things stand in the depth charts.
FC Dallas is close to wrapping up their time in Spain during their preseason overseas trip. While the offense hasn’t found a spark yet in the three games they’ve played this winter, the defense is still pretty reliable by only giving up a pair of goals.
So today, let’s look at the depth charts, starting with the defenders and goalkeepers on the roster. We’ll discuss what’s currently here, what options are available, and what is missing.
Right Back
What’s here: Ema Twumasi (Generation adidas), Geovane Jesus (U-22), and Colin Smith (HGP)
Options available: This is one of the bigger position battles this spring. In the three games played so far, head coach Nico Estevez has rotated through all three in this position at various times. Jesus has been given the start opposite of Marco Farfan in the two games in Spain. This could indicate that Estevez is leaning towards a new starter in the U-22 signing.
Twumasi feels like an option we could see off the bench first in most games if this trend continues. Having a guy like him, with loads of MLS experience off the bench, is never bad to have in your back pocket.
On the other hand, Smith looks like the odd man out right now. Which is to be expected for the young Homegrown.
What’s missing: Maybe a landing spot for Smith that isn’t North Texas SC? We’ll see.
