It is kind of wild to think that we’ve quickly gone from the playoff exit in Austin to the long and slow offseason, to quickly finishing off the preseason in what has felt like a flash, to the first week of the regular season.

But here we are, Week 1 in Major League Soccer for 2023!

FC Dallas wrapped up their preseason campaign with a 2-0 loss on Saturday in Houston, of all places.

Oh, you didn’t realize that the club played in Houston on Saturday night? Yeah, we knew it was the schedule, but MLS Season Pass apparently added it as a late test game. FC Dallas didn’t mention the game at all on their social accounts, but some were able to take in the game, like our pal Nathan Hill over at Afterburn Soccer (for those who don’t know, that is the new home of our old Big D After Dark Podcast). I’ll let him recap it here:

Honestly, take the loss with a grain of salt. FC Dallas had a split squad scrimmage before that last game on Saturday in Houston, so it is possible some guys were playing more minutes than they were used to to get ready for the season opener this coming Saturday.
