FC Dallas drops points in 1-0 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps

Missed penalty kick by Franco Jara will go down as a massive missed opportunity.

FC Dallas failed to get the interim manager bump that they were looking for under Marco Ferruzzi as they missed out on some valuable points in Canada, losing 1-0 to the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Dallas had their chance late in the game to tie it up on a penalty kick from Franco Jara. Jader Obrian was brought down in the box and the center official had to go to video review to decide whether or not to award the penalty. Vancouver keeper Maxime Crepeau denied Jara in stoppage time on the penalty, to help give the hosts the full three points.

Vancouver was on the board fairly early in this one as Brian White scored in the 20th minute. White scored off a great cross from Russell Teibert.

Dallas had plenty of chances in this one to tie things up as Crepeau had six saves on the night but none were close enough to really bother Crepeau.

Instant reaction: So no massive bump for the club on the night as they drop points, extending the winless run to five games now. The offense didn’t look as in sync as we’ve seen in recent weeks either, while the defense did have a little more bite to them. Still, this one was tough to take in as you could tell with the body language of the players once the final whistle was blown, half of the team on the field either bent over or fell to the ground. I think they all know this wasn’t good enough, and their playoff chances are probably next to nothing at the moment being six points back of 7th place.

Man of the Match: I guess you can give this one to Jimmy Maurer?

What’s next for FC Dallas: The final stretch is here with five of the last seven at home, starting with a midweek visit from Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday night.
