It was a clever pass from Matt Hedges in the 41st minute that split the Rapids defense that got things going for Dallas. The long through ball found the run of Michael Barrios who then slid a pass across the Rapids defense to Mosquera for his first of the night.
For the second game in a row, Dallas came out of the halftime break with a ton of renewed energy as Franco Jara scored his third goal in four games off a Reto Ziegler corner kick in the 49th minute.
Less than ten minutes later Mosquera made the Rapids defense pay again with a turnover in their defensive third that he scooped up and drive it into the penalty box before firing a shot past Rapids keeper Clint Irwin.
Colorado was able to pull one back in the 63rd minute thanks to Andre Shinyashiki off a lucky deflection that found it’s way past Kyle Zobeck.
But just as Colorado looked to press to get back in the game, again it was Mosquera who found his third of the night in the 78th minute. The hat trick was his first of his career. It’s the eighth hat trick in FC Dallas history, the first hat trick since July 2018 and the first at Toyota Stadium since June 2017.
Instant Reaction: First off, where has this Mosquera player been hiding. We saw this kind of thing in the preseason LAST year. Yeah, preseason last year. We know he gets injured a little too often but seeing him shine last night was something else. Maybe it is the service he is getting from Andres Ricaurte. Maybe it is the connection he has with guys like Barrios and Jara. Or maybe, he’s finally coming into his own here under Luchi Gonzalez. Whatever the case may be, sign us up for this version of Mosquera.
Man of the Match: I think you all know by now it is the hat trick hero, Mosquera.
What’s next for FC Dallas: The celebration of a back-to-back win won’t get to last long as FC Dallas is back at it again on Saturday, as they travel back to Kansas City.
