Despite not having an open International spot on their roster, FC Dallas continues to be linked with international players. The latest rumor comes hot off the press (Il Messaggero) this morning, with Italian social media widely reporting that FC Dallas is one of two MLS clubs interested in signing Javier “Flaco” Pastore of AS Roma.
Pastore is a 31-year old attacking midfielder, who is an Argentine international with 29 appearances for the Argentina Men’s National team. “Flaco” arrived at AS Roma from PSG in 2018, for a reported 15 million Euros. Currently earning 4.5 million euros for AS Roma, Pastore has failed to earn playing time this season despite being under contract until 2023. He is expected to part ways with AS Roma at the end of the current season.
Despite his lack of playing time with AS Roma, expect Pastore to be a Designated Player-level signing (possible TAM?), and expect serious competition for his services. There are two other clubs said to be interested in him, with those clubs being Atlanta United FC and an unnamed Qatari club.
While it is hard to imagine FC Dallas outbidding Atlanta United FC for his services, the fact that the club appears to have a connection with AS Roma bodes very well for FC Dallas.
What do you think? Does this potential signing excite you? Can FC Dallas actually outbid the likes of Atlanta United? How is FC Dallas acquiring another International roster spot? Let us know your thoughts!
