Report: Reggie Cannon set to leave FC Dallas for Portugal’s Boavista

The wrinkle in all of this is how Lille OSC fares into this deal.

We’ve been saying it for a while now but Reggie Cannon’s days in a Dallas uniform are certainly numbered. Even more so as we head into the weekend.

A new report from’s Tom Bogert states that sources tell him that FC Dallas have a deal to transfer Cannon to Portuguese club Boavista FC. There hasn’t been any confirmation from either side on the matter.

During Friday’s media press call over Zoom, FC Dallas head coach Luchi Gonzalez was very tight lipped about Cannon’s status for tomorrow’s game against Minnesota United.

Cannon did drop some clues this week about a potential move as he began following Boavista on Instagram.

Boavista finished 12th last season in the Portuguese top flight. They’ve been adding a fair amount of Concacaf talent this offseason with players coming in from Mexico and Honduas, as well as English youth international Angel Gomes on loan from Lille, a player who was a rising talent at Manchester United before signing with Lille OSC.

Lille could also be a factor in this as their owner is set to purchase a majority stake in Boavista. It isn’t totally out of the realm of possibilities that Cannon could end up being purchased by Lille before being put on loan to Boavista but that move does seem like a long shot.

What do you make of this new development? Curious to see if this is where he lands?
