With soccer around the world currently on a prolonged pause, we are starting to see signs of a secondary offseason. And nothing says offseason more than some juicy transfer rumor. Shout out to @FCDallasFR1 for bringing this rumor to our attention! Certainly a person you should be following on Twitter!
The rumor is that four teams are linked to striker Andre Felipe Ribeiro de Saoza. The teams are Brazilian top flight clubs Atletico-PR, Coritiba, Sport Recife, and an unnamed MLS team. The unnamed MLS team appears to be FC Dallas:
#Sport | O time da MLS que busca o atacante André é o FC Dallas. Clube norte-americano tem como diretor de futebol, André Zanotta (foto), que já foi executivo no Grêmio. Clube gaúcho, inclusive, negociou recentemente o zagueiro Bressan com o time dos EUA. @sportrecife pic.twitter.com/YHIlfnPo4F— Anderson Batista (@anderbatist) April 6, 2020
The information comes from reporter Anderson Batista, from Rádio Vivência FM 98.5, in Pernambuco. The obvious link here is FC Dallas technical director Andre Zanotta, who came from Gremio along with defender Bressan.
Andre is a 29-year old striker, who is well thought off in the Brazilian top flight, having played in 261 matches across all competitions (including Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana) and scoring a combined 80 goals with 15 assists in those matches. Andre came to Gremio from Sporting Recife after having scored 27 goals in 69 matches there. In his two seasons at Gremio, he has scored seven goals in 49 matches but he has fallen out of favor with the Gremio who now wishes to move him.
The rumor is that the other Brazilian clubs interested in Andre want Gremio to cover more than half of his salary (400k) should he join them on loan. This is not something that Gremio is interested in doing. The other part of the rumor states that negotiations with the MLS team (FC Dallas) were in a very advanced stage but came to a halt due to the coronavirus. The player is said to very interested in a move away from Gremio and has signaled a willingness to take a lesser salary.
The truth is that any player from Gremio who is linked to an MLS team will likely always be linked to FC Dallas due to Zanotta. That being said, this is the type of move (opportunistic) that FC Dallas is known to make. FC Dallas would be adding solid depth piece at a reasonable price.
What do you think? Is this the kind of reinforcement FC Dallas should be adding? Does adding another striker signal an impending move for a player currently on the roster?
