New, 1 comment

It looks like FC Dallas has added a European based player to the backline.

Spain - La Liga 123 _ 2017-2018

A rumor that has sprung up in just the past couple of days for FC Dallas and now it looks to have become a reality.

SD Eibar (La Liga, Spain top flight) has announced the transfer of Jose Antonio Martinez Gil to FC Dallas.

The transfer details are unknown at the moment. Though we know he will occupy one of the open international roster slots on the roster that the club has at the moment.

Martinez Gil is a 27 year old, 6 foot 2 inches tall Spanish center back. He is listed at a value of $1.32 million on transfermarkt.com.

Martinez Gil has spent the majority of his career playing in the Spanish 2nd Division, but has spent the last two seasons playing in top flight.

Three seasons ago, he started for Granada CF (on loan) in the Spanish 2nd Division, and helped them earn promotion to the top flight. Last season Martinez Gil spent a second season on loan with Granada CF, playing 20 La Liga matches, starting 13 of them, and with three starts in Copa Del Rey matches. This season he returned to Eibar, where he has been unable to find any playing time, making his move a necessity for both him and the club.

What do you make of this deal? Excited to see FC Dallas sign a European center back? Will he be a day one starter, or is he a back up? Let us know your thoughts!
