Yesterday, FC Dallas chairman Clark Hunt was on 1310 The Ticket, and had the following to say:
Here’s the audio of Clark Hunt signaling the signing of “a player from the Mexican League…who will score a lot of goals” - First thinking is Argentine Franco Jara currently at Pachuca - since that was the name written on the white board in the recently posted video. #FCDallas pic.twitter.com/kTAhsRnO3z— The KickAround (@TheKickAround) January 17, 2020
Shout out to The Kickaround for providing an audio recording of the big news.
FC Dallas is about to join the MLS arms race, and is set to sign a Liga MX star. Speculation has been growing since last November that the man FC Dallas is interested in is Franco Jara of Pachuca.
Last November there was a rumor linking Franco Jara to an undisclosed MLS team on a winter move. The speculation of Franco Jara joining FC Dallas only really picked up steam this month when @FCDallasFR1 posted a picture of Luchi Gonzalez next to a whiteboard with a depth chart that included a player named Jara.
Fast forward to today, and with the news of Dan Hunt’s proclamation spreading we’re beginning to see rumors of several players linked to FC Dallas:
If the rumors are to be believed, Jara is FCD’s top winter target. The tweets go on to say that FC Dallas is preparing to make an offer for Jara and that should a deal fail to materialize, FC Dallas has their eyes on two other options. Let’s take a closer look at all three players linked to FC Dallas:
- Franco Jara, Pachuca - Franco Jara (31 year old, Center-Forward) is a player that FC Dallas fans know well, as he scored against FC Dallas in the 2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League, when Pachuca eliminated FC Dallas. The Argentine has been in fine form of late, as he finished the Apertura (Opening) Season with eight goals and one assist in 17 matches across all competitions for Pachuca. Jara has been consistent throughout his five years with Pachuca, accumulating 75 goals and 19 assist over 157 matches played. Jara is the type of #9 that FC Dallas fans have been clamoring for......forever, but he is also a versatile player, capable of playing on either wing.
- Mauro Quiroga, Necaxa - There has been recent rumors linking the Argentinian Quiroga (30 years old, Center-Forward) to both FC Dallas and Palmeiras (Brazilian top flight).

While Jara has been in fine form, Quiroga has been on fire during the Apertura season, finishing with 13 goals and four assists in 22 matches across all competitions. Quiroga is a player who has seen his value skyrocket since joining Necaxa for around a 300 thousand transfer fee just last July. Quiroga had scored 15 goals and nine assists for Curico Unido (Chile top flight) in 38 matches played. Mauro has not been as consistent as Jara, but he is a player who has clearly elevated his level of play.
3. Enner Valencia, Tigres UANL - Enner Valencia (30 years old, Center-Forward) is Ecuador’s all time leading scorer, and has experience playing in the English Premier League for both Everton and West Ham. Unlike the two Argentinian players on this list, Valencia is a player who’s stock has gone down. Valencia has only scored two goals in 19 matches across all competitions, and has not scored a regular season goal for Tigres UANL since September.
Let’s be clear: any of these three players, would be an exciting addition for FC Dallas. If you’re like me and truly believe that FC Dallas is one big name #9 away from being a real MLS Cup contender, then this has to be one of the most exciting news an FC Dallas fan could hear!
What do you think? Will FC Dallas really join the MLS arms race? Is Dan Hunt just blowing smoke? Is Jara the best option? Which one of the three players would you rather FC Dallas sign? Let us know what you think!
