Report: Reggie Cannon earning interest from two English teams

But could he get a UK work permit? That may be the bigger hurdle to overcome.

What will likely be one of the bigger offseason storylines for FC Dallas is starting to slowly get a lot clearer today. The Athletic’s Sam Stejskal is reporting today that two English clubs are interested in signing FC Dallas Homegrown defender Reggie Cannon this winter.

FC Dallas recently picked up Cannon’s 2020 option (they also have an option for him in 2021 too), fueling speculation that he could be on the way out now that he has finished up the final guaranteed year of his contract where made a measly $80,250.

But as Stejskal is reporting, one club in the Premier League and another in the Championship, are looking to land the 21-year old. The two unnamed clubs could easily pay Cannon the salary he is likely wanting from FC Dallas, which the report states could be in the neighborhood of what Paxton Pomykal is now making with FCD (roughly $650k a year).

Going to England may still be a stretch for Cannon as he’ll likely have trouble securing a UK work permit. While Cannon has become a more prominent fixture for Gregg Berhalter’s United State Men’s National team, he’ll likely not have enough international experience to earn a work permit and will have to go through an appeal. The report states that an English club could buy him this winter and loan him back to FC Dallas until he is able to when a possible appeal in the English courts for the work permit.

What do you make of this news that Cannon could be on the way out this winter from Frisco? Do you think FC Dallas will be able to earn a good enough transfer fee to make this work for both sides? What would that fee look like to you?
