Transfer Rumor: FC Dallas linked with Romain Philippoteaux

FC Dallas is in talks with a veteran Ligue 1 player.

It’s my favorite time of the year - the funny season - and today it looks to finally get into full swing.

Reports out of France have indicated that FC Dallas is in talks to sign veteran Ligue 1 (France top flight) player Romain Philippoteaux.

Loïc Tanzi of RMC Sport, reports that talks between Nimes Olympique (Philippoteaux’s current club) and FC Dallas are at an advanced stage. The price currently being negotiated is said to be in the range of 400k Euros (or around $442K). FC Dallas is said to be interested in signing Romain on a two year deal, with a one year option.

Philippoteaux is a 31-year old left midfielder capable of playing both wings. He has played in all 12 matches for last place Nimes Olympique, starting 10, and coming of the bench in the other two. He has three goals and two assists in 896 minutes of action. Philippoteaux has played 90 matches (12 Nimes, 78 Dijon) at the top level in France, and has 144 matches (79 AJ Auxerre, 88 Lorient) at the French Division 2 level.

Ligue 1 is one of the top 5 leagues in the world, and is considered a step above MLS by most. Philippoteaux would be a similar addition to Roland Lamah, but would arrive having played at a much higher level. If proven true, this is an excellent signing for FC Dallas, as Philippoteaux would help provide stability to a position that was an area of weakness last season.

What do you think? Is this a good or bad addition for FC Dallas? Will this move solve the issues that have plagued FC Dallas on the left wing? Let us know your thoughts!
