In the wake of last week’s article on scouting in the Dallas Morning News, it has been clear that the club did not take the article well. Assistant Technical Director Luiz Muzzi tweeted out this response:
Well, now the story gets a little more interesting. FC Dallas’ new Director of International Scouting, Jose "Chuy" Vera was seen in this tweet with Dan Hunt where some names were written on a whiteboard.
If you zoom in on the tweet, you can get a little clearer picture of some of the names listed:
- Alexander Barboza, 22 - Center back - River Plate
- Eder Alvarez Balanta, 24 - Center back / left back - Basel
- German Conti, 23 - Center back - Colon
- Anderson Ordonez, 24 - Center back - Eintracht Frankfurt
- Forrest Lasso, 24 - Center back - FC Cincinnati
- Tomas Mejias, 28 - Goalkeeper - Middlesbrough
- Jorge Salinas, 25 - Left wing - JEF United Chiba
Some names would be less likely than others to land in Dallas.
Blanta would likely require a pretty large transfer fee as he has been playing in the UEFA Champions League with Basel as of late, including a win over Manchester United last month. Ordonez was just loaned out to LDU Quinto, so that one also seems pretty unlikely. Mejias would require a pretty heftier salary for a keeper in this league and he won’t be available until the summer.
Conti and Barboza would be interesting players to land, both likely on a loan if anything.
This also comes on the heels of the Federico Carrizo rumor.
Was this list an intention leak? You do kind of wonder if they put this out there for a reason after the DMN article.
Overall there aren’t many names on the list that are truly exciting when you just look them up online. But seeing any type of list of potential names is still worth discussing. Are there any names you’d be interested in seeing land here?
EDIT: Hat tip to South End for alerting us of some names on this list. They sent us a DM about this last weekend that we viewed this morning for the first time.
