The run of Anibal Chala with FC Dallas could end up being even more limited than what we saw in 2017. Reports out of South America are pointing to Chala’s current club LDU Quito as being interested in purchasing the fullback following his loan stint this year.
LDU Quito traveled to Dallas recently to discuss a deal that would extend the loan for another season. According to the report, FC Dallas wants Quito to purchase the fullback outright instead as they are only interested in selling Chala.
Chala’s loan with Quito ends on December 31.
The 21-year old came to Dallas in the offseason before the 2017 season but after a sports hernia injury early in training camp, the fullback never made it back on the field outside of one scrimmage in Mexico before a CONCACAF Champions League match. Dallas ended up loaning him back to Quito in May.
This development is rather interesting on the heels of the Walker Zimmerman trade on Sunday morning. Dan Hunt has said that he wants to rebuild the defense and selling off a DP would help bring in even more allocation money to help do just that. FCD is currently the top team in the league’s allocation order for signing American national team players that are coming into the league.
What do you make of Chala not returning to Dallas at all? Would you be disappointed in that or would a potential sell help soften the blow?
