Time to get back into the rumor wagon today. Reports from around Twitter suggest that FC Dallas is close to signing Argentine defender Federico Vega.
The 22-year old defender is currently with River Plate in Argentina, the same club that current FCD midfielder Mauro Diaz came form. Vega would help add depth to the right back situation with the club, he can even play centrally if needed as well which is good from a depth standpoint.
Vega has seen time with the Argentina U-20s in the past. He has recently played in games for River Plate with their first team, so he would bring some decent experience to the table.
It is possible that this is one of the players that Oscar Pareja and Fernando Clavijo have been tracking as of late. Both Pareja and Clavijo have stated recently that they want to add more depth to the defense. While Vega appears to be mostly a right back, I don't see this addition as taking the place of a potential re-signing of Je-Vaughn Watson. If anything, this is more of a depth addition that could end up being a bigger deal down the road if/when he becomes acclimated with MLS.
Kudos to the Dallas Beer Guardians for tracking down this rumor.
