Oh the silly season is upon us. That means transfer rumors will come out of nowhere for FC Dallas over the next few weeks. One is already surfacing that is gaining traction. Jay had it the other day in his Big D Soccer News Update. In it was a link to a report from Argentina that suggests that FC Dallas is closing in on midfielder Mauro Diaz from River Plate.

Diaz fits the bill as far as the age goes from previous statements that Fernando Clavijo has made this season in regards to potential signings. He also has good experience with his youth national team and anytime you get a guy that has seen minutes with a club like River Plate you have to pay some attention to him.

Diaz is a holding midfielder, not a true defensive type but someone that could slide in with Andrew Jacobson and allow Michel to move to his more natural left back position.

Anyways, yesterday evening on, Matt Barbour caught up with Clavijo to get his take on the rumors. His comments were pretty interesting.

"If everything goes as planned - but in soccer, you never know - I would say yes, [a signing is imminent]," FC Dallas technical director Fernando Clavijo told on Thursday.

"He's one of the players that we looked at, absolutely," Clavijo said. "But he's under contract right now and until that changes and we can reach an agreement, it is very premature for me to say that he is one of the players [we're pursuing].

"Right now he has I think two more weeks to go in his contract. When that contract expires, then we will be able to comment on it. Right now, I am not able to."

Imminent signing huh? His contract expires soon with River Plate and the two sides are already on agreement to terms. All signs sound like they are point to Diaz here.

Naturally things have to go through MLS and from what I've been able to gather from sources, this could be a very big signing for the club. The July transfer window for MLS opens up in a couple weeks, which could be perfect time for Clavijo and Dallas to sign Diaz.

Once we get more on on this deal, we will certainly pass it over to you all.
