# FC Dallas loans Tomas Pondeca to New Mexico United

FC Dallas has loaned midfielder Tomas Pondeca to USL Championship side New Mexico United for the 2025 season. 

Pondeca is eligible to be recalled by FC Dallas at any point during the season.  
  
The 23-year old [signed with FC Dallas](https://www.bigdsoccer.com/fc-dallas-signs-tomas-pondeca-6709845f430f80001b575266/) ahead of the 2024 MLS season and made his MLS debut on June 29, 2024, against FC Cincinnati. He made four additional appearances for FC Dallas across all competitions.

Pondeca also featured for North Texas SC in 2024, making 16 regular-season appearances and four playoff appearances in MLS NEXT Pro. He scored his first playoff goal on Oct. 20 against Vancouver Whitecaps 2 and helped NTSC capture its first MLS NEXT Pro Cup.

With Eric Quill in charge as the new manager, you had to get a sense that at some point a player (or two) would be loaned to his former club in the USL Championship. 

In all fairness, this is a smart move for FC Dallas as Pondeca was likely going to be fairly low on the center midfielder depth charts this season from the start. This move allows him to get minutes at a level that is higher than MLS NEXT, where he has excelled in the last two seasons. 

Given the state of the roster right now as preseason is underway, don’t be surprised if there are a couple more loans like this to USL-C clubs.
