FC Dallas defender Johnny Nelson underwent back surgery on Wednesday, September 8. Dr. Andrew B. Dossett successfully performed the procedure at the Carrell Clinic in Dallas.
The anticipated recovery time is approximately six-to-seven months. This will push him into a return early next season.
Nelson has missed several games with this injury this year. He was last seen on the field at the beginning of July when FC Dallas traveled to California to take on the LA Galaxy. The 23-year old has appeared in 30 MLS regular season matches, including 10 appearances during the 2021 season. He made his MLS debut in his home state of Ohio on March 16, 2019 against Columbus Crew.
Nelson was selected by FC Dallas with the 10th overall pick (first round) of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. He recorded his first MLS assist in the 3-2 win against Sporting Kansas City on September 19, 2020 at Children’s Mercy Park.
