Hoops Home & Abroad Report: Tanner Tessmann makes Venezia FC debut

Tanner made his Venezia FC debut coming off the bench in a cup win.

We are finally back. This will be an abbreviated version of Hoops Home & Abroad, as I ease myself back into regular coverage.

I’ve only covered a few this week, but there are many more players with ties to FC Dallas, the FC Dallas Academy, or the DFW. I’ll add more players to the coverage in the following weeks.

  • DFW - (Dallas - Fort Worth Metroplex Players)

Tanner Tessmann (AP/FCD - Venezia/Serie A) - Tanner was on the bench on Sunday as Venezia FC (Italy top flight) hosted Frosinone (Italy Division 2) in Italian Cup action. Tessmann came on in the 82nd minute of the match, with the score tied at 0-0, where it would remain until the end of regulation time. Both clubs would score in extra time and it would go into the PK shootout with the score tied at 1-1. Tessmann was part of the players involved in the shootout but he would miss his PK. Tessmann’s teammates would bail him out in the end as Venezia advanced via an 8-7 PK shootout win.

Tessmann had a solid debut, finishing with 35 touches, 19 passes completed (74% completion), 2/3 long balls, 3/5 duels won (1/1 Aerials), 2/2 tackles, 1 interception, and 6 recoveries.

Here is the extended highlights video of the match, including the PK shootout in its complete if expediated form:

Weston McKennie (AP - Juventus/Serie A): Weston came off the bench in the 63rd minute, in a 3-1 club friendly win over Atalanta on Saturday.

Carlos Gruezo (FCD - FC Augsburg/Bundesliga): Carlos was on the bench and did not play, in a crushing 4-0 defeat to visiting Hoffenheim.

Chris Richards (AP/FCD - Bayern Munich/Bundesliga): Richards is currently in limbo, as Bayern has yet to decide what to do with the talented player. Hoffenheim wants to take Richards on loan, but Bayern Munich would prefer to sell him on a permanent basis. Bayern Munich wants 10 million euros, and it's unknown if Hoffenheim is willing to pay that much for Richards.

Christian Cappis (AP - Brondby/Danish Superliga): Brondby has been decimated by COVID, and Christian is one of seven players that will not make the trip for the Leg 1 match against RB Salzburg (Austria top flight) in Champions League Qualification.

Bryan Reynolds (AP/FCD - AS Roma/Serie A) - Bryan came off the bench in the 71st minute of a 5-0 club friendly win over Raja Casa Blanca (Morocco top flight).

Alejandro Zendejas (AP/FCD - Necaxa/Liga MX) - Alex has started the Apertura Season on a tear, as he currently has three goals in four matches. This is his goal from this past weekend, in a 2-0 win over Atletico San Luis:
