FC Dallas played well for about twenty minutes before they shut things off.

A late own goal in stoppage time saved FC Dallas from a complete disappointment as they tied the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-2.

The Caps picked up two first half goals from Lucas Cavallini and Andy Rose following some defensive errors by FC Dallas to offset a goal from Ricardo Pepi. But Dallas was bailed out, in the end, thanks to an own goal from Ranko Veselinovic.

FC Dallas had good momentum early in this one as they found success on the left side of the field with Ryan Hollingshead and John Nelson overlapping one another. Twelve minutes in saw Hollingshead send a great ball into the box for Pepi who took two quick shots on goal that were pushed away by Maxime Crepeau.

FC Dallas made their breakthrough in the 22nd minute from Pepi as he headed home a perfect cross from Jesus Ferreira. The goal was Pepi’s fourth in his last four games.

Vancouver tied it up in the 30th minute thanks to a turnover in the midfield by Facundo Quignon that Ciao Alexander collected and then began a counterattack. Alexander then sent a ball into the box for Cavallini that Dallas’ Bressan misplayed allowing the Canadian international to dribble around Jimmy Maurer before finding the back of the net.

The Caps doubled their lead in the dying minutes of the first half off a corner kick. Rose was able to get on the end of Deiber Caicedo cross that helped give the Caps a halftime lead.

Dallas pushed for an equalizer in the second half but weren’t able to make the most of the many corner kicks and free kicks until the final minutes of extra time as Veselinovic accidentally headed home a cross from Paxton Pomykal.

Instant Reaction: Yeah, its still a disappointment to see this kind of result. There was 20-25 good minutes early in the match and then it completely went away as the Caps found their chances. The draw is still better than a loss but to not pick up all three points tonight is going to haunt this team for a while here.

Man of the match: Just give it to the guys lighting the fireworks.

What’s next for FC Dallas: It is another quick turnaround for the club as they head back to California to battle the LA Galaxy on Wednesday night.
