Have you ever heard of the MLS College Protection List? Yeah, add that to the pile of weird but true items that help MLS teams build rosters. Last year FC Dallas drafted froward Cal Jennings in the first round of the SuperDraft but opted not to sign him for the 2020 season.

Despite not signing him, FC Dallas retained his MLS rights until today.

FC Dallas acquires Los Angeles Football Club’s natural third round pick in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft in exchange for the College Protected List rights to Jennings.

Additionally, FC Dallas will receive additional incentives if Jennings meets certain performance-based metrics while with the club.

The 23-year old was selected 17th overall by FC Dallas in the first round of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft before signing with USL Championship side Memphis 901 in July 2020. He appeared in 14 matches for Memphis and scored nine goals. He was recently signed by USL Championship side Indy Eleven.
