We’re about a month away from the new season and while we still wait for the full season schedule, MLS did reveal the home openers for each of the teams today. FC Dallas will face off against the Colorado Rapids on April 17 at 7 pm.
The first home game of the season will see the Rapids come to town with a few familiar faces in former Homegrown star Kellyn Acosta and recently traded winger Michael Barrios.
This is the first time FC Dallas has started its regular season on April 17, surpassing the club’s 1996 season opener on April 14, 1996. It will also be the eighth time in franchise history that FC Dallas will start the season in April and the first time since the 2007 season.
FC Dallas has a pretty strong home opener record at 14-4-7 and is unbeaten at Toyota Stadium in home openers since 2010. FC Dallas is 25-8-6 all-time against the Rapids in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area and 34-24-17 all-time in league matches. This will be the fourth time FC Dallas will face Colorado in a season opener and the first time since 2013. FC Dallas has two wins (1998, 2013) and one draw (2004) against the Rapids in season openers.
There hasn’t been an official word yet on what the club plans to do about capacity this season. It is being reported that MLB’s Texas Rangers are set to open their 2021 season with a full capacity crowd ability at Globe Life Field with masks on as a requirement for those in attendance.
FC Dallas will also travel to Earthquakes Stadium on Saturday, April 24 to face the San Jose Earthquakes in FC Dallas’ first road match of the season. The match will kick off at 2:30 PM CT on Univision.
The remainder of FC Dallas’ 2021 regular season schedule and local broadcast details will be announced at a later date.
