If you weren’t watching the Dallas Stars against the Colorado Avalanche, you were watching this game if you were a north Texas sports fan (and also if you like soccer). Because Lord knows the Texas Rangers aren’t doing much this season. The fact that we got an inspiring performance from FC Dallas, though, was a real boost. Going over to Sporting Kansas City's home is never easy, and I always predict a loss when we go there, I was wrong. A draw ain’t bad, but we got great performances from a few unlikely heroes.
Johnny Freaking Nelson & Kyle Zobeck
The 22-year old from Ohio put on an absolute show. He was all over the field making defensive stops and goal saving tackles all night. He looked incredibly fast and was just unbelievable on defense. He was legitimately playing as a sweeper and last ditch defender for parts of the night with Bressan. We looked like we missed Reggie Cannon offensively, but defensively I think we can take heart in our defense’s performance tonight.
Not only was Johnny impressive, but Kyle Zobeck came on for Jimmy Maurer and performed admirably making a few great stops to keep the draw. If you have been following the team for a while, you know this opportunity for Kyle has been waiting and he showed up when his number was called. Shows that with enough patience and hard work you can get to where you want to be. Fantastic that we have a back up stopper like him.
Mark and Steve Back!
Honestly, any road trip to SKC sounds horrible, but it was made a little better by our favorite pair returning to the TXA 21 broadcast to give us an audible description of what’s happening on the field. Though Mark’s return was due to the sad elimination of the Dallas Mavericks, it was really good to have him back on the call for our boys in red and white. Just a reminder that these games are streaming on many services, check out our other articles to find out where!
And finally, your fan quote of the night: “Finally. Expensive striker scores!” - /u/Dallas_FC
Who were more inspired by, Bressan, Johnny Nelson or Kyle Zobeck? Do you always think we are going to lose in Kansas City or are you a little more optimistic? Did you tune in to TXA21 to hear Mark’s voice talk about soccer once again? Let me know in the comments below!
