Squad Selection: Will the FC Dallas attack show up against Colorado?

Two more games this week at home will give Luchi Gonzalez some lineup questions to answer.

So far the reboot to the 2020 season hasn’t gone too well for FC Dallas. Three games, zero goals and just two points to show for in the standings. Now Luchi Gonzalez has another double-dip week at home as they first host the Colorado Rapids tomorrow night.

Since play resumed for the season, Gonzalez has opted for a couple different formations looks from the fan-hated 5-3-2, to the tried and true 4-3-3, to a slight combination of the two last weekend in Houston with a 3-4-3. What will be his preferred look tomorrow night against Colorado?

Defensively, two straight shutouts isn’t a bad thing and with Ryan Hollingshead returning from his family matter that kept him out of the last two games, you have to wonder if he’ll get the nod over John Nelson.

But the real questions here have to revolve around the attack and getting guys like Brandon Servania and Paxton Pomykal on the field a bit more. I’d also throw in Zdenek Ondrasek or Ricardo Pepi too as the first couple of games with Franco Jara haven’t quite panned out, maybe coming off the bench will be what he needs for a game or two until he can get scoring.

What kind of lineup should Luchi go with though tomorrow? Reboot things altogether by brining on some Homegrown flavor? Or continue to try and run things out with a defensive shape that is at least producing some shutouts behind Jimmy Maurer in goal?

Here is what we know in terms of availability for Wednesday’s game (some of the loaned players could end up not being on loan, some of those are fluid each week):

SUSPENDED:

OUT: none

QUESTIONABLE: none

LOAN: Francis Atuahene (San Diego Loyal), Pablo Aranguiz (La U), Callum Montgomery (San Antonio FC), Ema Twumasi (Austin Bold)

Note: Andres Ricaurte and Phelipe Megiolaro have yet to arrive with the team. Luchi Gonzalez said they’ll each arrive over the next two weeks and then will go through a quarantine protocol before being able to train with the team.
