Hoops Home & Abroad: Weston McKennie suffers ankle injury

Weston appears to have been injured during midweek cup action.

Europe

Weston McKennie (AP - Schalke 04/Bundesliga): Weston started last Friday, and played 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw at Hertha BSC. The draw sees Schalke 04 to 6th place in the Bundesliga table.

Schalke 04 was again in action on Tuesday in the 3rd round of the DFB Pokal (German Cup), this time hosting Hertha BSC. McKennie was on the bench and came on in the 60th minute of a 3-2 victory. It wasn’t all good news for Schalke 04 and McKennie, as he appears to have suffered an injury:

There’s no official word yet on the severity of the injury.

Carlos Gruezo (FCD - FC Augsburg/Bundesliga): Carlos was in the 18 for FC Augsburg, his first time since the injury, but did not see any minutes in a 2-1 win over visiting Werder Bremen.

Anton Nedyalkov (FCD - Ludogorets/Bulgaria): Ludogorets are finishing up their Club Friendlies schedule, but Anton did not feature in their final Friendly.

Chris Richards (AP/FCD - Bayern Munich II/3. Liga): Richards started for Bayern Munich II on Saturday, in a 1-0 win over visiting Hansa Rostock. Bayern II find themselves in a three match undefeated streak within league play, and a six match unbeaten streak if you include Club Friendlies. The win sees Bayern II move up to 13th place in the 3. Liga table.

Getterson (FCD- Maritimo/Liga NOS): Getterson was on the bench Sunday, and came off the bench in the 73rd minute of a 2-1 loss against visiting Deportivo Aves.

Christian Cappis (AP - Hobro IK/Danish Superliga): Christian started for Hobro IK in their club friendly against Stromsgodset (Norway division 1). The match results had not yet been posted as of this writing.

Johan Gomez ( AP - Porto FC U19/ Portugal) - No significant news on Johan’s work in Porto, so instead, here is the latest edition of the podcast Chum Chat (Season 1, Vol. 3). It’s hosted by Johan Gomez and his two friends from the FC Dallas Academy, Judson Burn, and Tanner Tessmann:


Mexico & Central America

Rogelio Funes Mori (DFW-Monterrey): Rogelio started Saturday as his team hosted Queretaro. With his team trailing 1-0 in the second half, Rogelio got his team level:

Monterrey would go on to allow a goal in the 90th minute, and suffered a 2-1 defeat.

Wednesday, Rogelio started at Necaxa and had an assist on the first goal of the match:

Monterrey would go on to blow a 2-1 lead in the 93rd minute, and settled for a 2-2 draw.

The loss and draw see Los Rayados to 17th place in the Liga MX Clausura table.

Fabian Castillo (FCD - Queretaro) - Fabian started and played 89 minutes in Queretaro’s 2-1 win at Monterrey.

The win puts Queretaro into 2nd place in the Liga MX Clausura table.

Nick Hagen (AP - Municipal/Guatemala): Nick started in goal Saturday as Municipal won 3-1 against visiting Siquinala.

He did not start Wednesday in a 0-0 draw at Deportivo Sanarate.

The win and draw sees Municipal jump to 4th place in the Liga Nacional Clausura table.

Moises Hernandez (FCD - Antigua GFC/Guatemala) - Moises started Sunday in a 1-0 win over Santa Lucia.

He started again on Wednesday in a 2-0 win over last place Coban Imperial.

The pair of wins vault Antigua GFC into sole possession of 1st place in the Liga Nacional Clausura table.

Mauro Diaz (FCD - Estudiantes de la Plata/Argentina) - Mauro did not feature for Estudiantes this week.

Cristian Colman (FCD - Barcelona SC/Ecuador) - Cristian’s team is currently in Copa Libertadores 2nd round action. He did not get signed in time to participate in the first three rounds of Copa Libertadores, and is two weeks away from making his team debut.

In the meantime, Cristian has been drawing rave reviews from the fans, as he has dazzled in several intrasquad scrimmages.
