Callum Montgomery loaned to San Antonio FC

The 22-year old defender will compete in the USL Championship

FC Dallas announced today that is has loaned Callum Montgomery to San Antonio FC in the USL Championship for the 2020 season. As with most loans nowadays, Dallas retains the right to call Montgomery back should the need to do so arise.

Montgomery was always going to struggle to get first team MLS minutes with Matt Hedges, Reto Ziegler, and Bressan ahead in the pecking order.

Montgomery started in 22 matches for North Texas SC, scoring three goals in 1,958 minutes played. He made his FC Dallas debut in a friendly against Liga MX’s Club Tijuana on July 7.

This is another good move on the FCD front office’s part to continue to get some promising players playing time despite them not being ready for consistent MLS action just yet. Montgomery joins fellow organization-mates Atuahene and Evans in the USL Championship and will have a good chance to highlight his work ethic and skill in a division with some higher quality than USL League One.

What do you think of the move? Does Montgomery have a legitimate shot at a rotation spot in 2021?
