Workhorse of the Week vs. Inter Miami and Houston

FC Dallas took care of business at home, secured a playoff spot, and suddenly look alive. Which player stood out for you across 180 minutes of action?

You gave love to Jimmy Maurer for his play at Real Salt Lake in our last poll, so congratulations to the keeper who has staked down the No. 1 spot.

What a Week

Last week, I wrote:

With the games coming fast and furious, I don’t think we are going to see a resurgence from this squad. They will do their best to limp into the playoffs where they will fade quickly.

What a difference six points and two home matches make.

Yes, FC Dallas has traditionally enjoyed home cooking, although this season has been a bit of an anomaly. We’ve enumerated the numerous reasons time and time again for why the boys from Frisco have plenty of excuses for poor play during this pandemic ridden season. Ultimately though, a good soccer team wins at home and figures out ways to grind out results on the road. It’s not been easy for this squad to do that this season for all kinds of reasons, so it was nice to see them play two matches at home and return to the form they are capable of.

And I’m glad my words are being proven wrong.

With home wins against Inter Miami and Houston, FC Dallas clinched a playoff spot and edged them toward a potential 4th place finish in the West, meaning they would get to host at least one playoff game. There is a lot of work to do to make that happen (and it remains unlikely), but the door is cracked for Dallas to get hot at just the right time.

Playing Houston at home was just what the doctor ordered. Houston absolutely deserved their shellacking, and after a flurry of decent opportunities in the second half, the Dynamo gave up. Absolutely rolled over. Fafa Picault came through with a big time performance, Andres Ricaurte continues to figure out life in MLS, and Franco Jara has scored in two straight games. Let’s keep it going.

Big D After Dark

Join Ben, Jose, and I to break down six points from this week at 9 PM Central/10 PM Eastern as we go live on the BigD Soccer Youtube channel and Facebook channel. We had some guest Juventus fans last week. Why not join us, share your reactions, and tell us what concerns you about another week with lots of FC Dallas action.

Workhorse Recommendations

I am starting by giving love to Thiago Santos who had two of his best games for Dallas in a while. He was a terror among the opposing teams, breaking up attacks and helping out with the defensive effort. We saw how well he can thrive when his role is simplified.

I also think you can vote for Fafa Picault and Andres Ricaurte, who had excellent weeks for this team.

Or really, anyone on the back line, including Matt Hedges who is still mending and Bressan who has quietly staked a claim for a future starting spot.

What do you think? Vote below and let us know how you feel.
