Many of us thought that the FC Dallas transfer rumors would be drying up, and the only rumors we were expecting were possible departures. That is until today, with word that FC Dallas is linked to a French player:
If Falette's move to Fenerbahce collapses, 34-year-old Adil Rami's hopes of leaving the Turks this month will fade; he has interest from New York Red Bulls, FC Dallas & Chicago Fire about a January move (L'Éq) https://t.co/zz2EGQHuZj— Get French Football News (@GFFN) January 23, 2020
FC Dallas is one of three MLS teams linked to Adil Rami.
Adil Rami (34 years old) is a (6 foot 3 inches tall, 194 lbs,) French center back who currently plays for Fenerbahce (Turkish top flight) of the Super Lig. Rami is currently contracted to Fenerbahce until June 30th of this year (with a year option), but was looking to make a move to MLS this month. GFFN is reporting that circumstances out of Rami’s control, will likely result in him being forced to finish out his contract. This means Rami will now likely be a summer signing on a free transfer (unless Fenerbahce exercises the year option) for one of the interested MLS teams.
Rami was a member of the 2018 World Cup winning French Men’s National Team (36 caps), and has experience playing for top European clubs AC Milan (Italy), Sevilla (Spain), Marseille (France), and Valencia (Spain). He played for Marseille in the 2018-119 season, starting 21 matches, but a muscle injury in January of 2019, saw him only start three matches before the end of the season.
Rami joined Fenerbahce on a free transfer in time for the September 2019 start to their current season. Rami was expected to challenge for a starting position, but showed up unfit, and above his best weight. Showing up unfit and coupled with an early season injury meant that he spent the first five months mostly in rehab. Rami finally got down to his best weight about two months ago, and has started four matches in Turkish cup action since October 30. Rami has looked like his old self since his return to fitness, and has drawn the attention of the New York Red Bulls, Chicago Fire, and FC Dallas. It’s that return to form that also has Fenerbahce less willing to transfer the veteran defender.
Our friend FC_Dallas FR, who has a far better knowledge of Rami than anyone I know, thinks that Rami is a bad fit for Luchi Ball, and no longer a good defender. There’s also the question of how much money FC Dallas would be willing to pay for an aged former world champion?
So what do you think? Good more, or bad move for FC Dallas? Is an aging veteran a good fit for FC Dallas? Let us know your thoughts!
