For the first time since 2010, FC Dallas has picked up a road point in Washington as they drew the Seattle Sounders 0-0 on Wednesday night.

After giving up four goals last weekend in Chicago, the Dallas defense held their own against on of the better attacking sides in the Western Conference by limiting the Sounders to just three shots on goal in the entire game.

The best chance for both sides came early in this one as five minutes in Seattle defender Joevin Jones got down the wing and whipped in a cross that Cristian Roldan couldn’t get enough of a header on frame to test Jesse Gonzalez.

The draw, coupled with the Portland Timbers losing on Wednesday night to New York, allowed FC Dallas to move back above the playoff line in the Western Conference.

Instant Reaction: Despite not being a ton in this one offensively and Paxton Pomykal playing on the wings instead of in the middle, I think we got a good glimpse of what Luchi Gonzalez is trying to do here with his roster. He knows that he needs Bryan Acosta and Brandon Servania in the midfield together, but he also knows he wants Pomykal and Jesus Ferreira out there as well. The easy move is having one of those two on the wings in place of Santiago Mosquera or Dominque Badji. It wasn’t great overall but tactically it did bring a little more defensive shape to the field, which got the shutout on the road. That is a huge confidence boost for a team that had just gotten rocked a few days prior on the road.

Man of the Match: Maybe give it to Jesse Gonzalez, maybe to give it to Reto Ziegler, Matt Hedges or Acosta. Really no wrong answer there in my book.

What’s next for FC Dallas: The quick turn around continues for Luchi’s side as they return home for a big home game on Sunday as they host New York City FC.
