Workhorse of the Week vs. Houston Dynamo

New, 3 comments

Houston came to town and stunk it up. FC Dallas meanwhile dominated. Absolute huge win. Who is your top player as El Capitan stays home?

We’re continuing with our theme of making the wild suggestion that Ryan Hollingshead deserves a United States Men’s National Team call up and to be in contention for MVP for this season. He added another Workhorse win last week, and will he do so again this week?

Perfect?

Was this one of the better performances for FC Dallas all season?

Luchi Gonzalez opted for some changes in the lineup, bringing in Zdenek Ondrasek for a big start, shuttling Dominique Badji out to the left wing, sitting Paxton Pomykal to rest those wonderful legs, and giving Brandon Servania a slot in the middle. Every single stinking move paid off. Though FC Dallas had to brush off some juicy chances early from Houston, once the Frisco machine got going, Houston had no answers.

Biggest takeaway on the night was seeing all of our attackers come away with something to show for their efforts. Cobra had two goals and an assist. Badji earned a PK and assist. Jesus Ferreira had two goals, one called back for a questionable VAR decision. Michael Barrios even got one late, which has to be a boost to him.

The defense played pretty well too, despite giving up a sloppy goal near the end. Ryan Hollingshead was incredible, all over the place as an attacking force and solid in the back. Despite a brief scare of losing Jesse Gonzalez, even the rising star was able to stick it out and see the game through. This was an absolute all around great performance.

Is this a sign of the team finally, finally rounding into form as they prepare to welcome troubled FC Cincinnati and stake a claim to a playoff spot? Or is it just catching a bad team at a good time? While it is fantastic to see Ondrasek get rewarded for being patient and working his butt off during practice most of the season, is he really emerging? For now, at least, it seems he deserves to keep starting until someone else can do otherwise. Questions remain for this team, but the season and playoff prospects look brighter and brighter.

Who to vote for?

Because both Badji and Ondrasek got subbed off, I can’t offer them as choices even if Zdenek’s overall performance was deserving. I’m going with Hollingshead, Cannon, and Servania as your picks of the action, worthy of your votes. Who else would you recommend?
