El Capitan is staying put for another year. FC Dallas routed their in-state rivals Houston Dynamo 5-1 on Sunday evening.

Zdenek Ondrasek scored two goals in the win while Michael Barrios, Reto Ziegler and Jesus Ferreira also added in goals of their own.

Houston had the first good look on the night in the 20th minute on a counter attack from Alberth Elis. The Dynamo striker fired a shot from the right side of the that forced Jesse Gonzalez to make a save.

Dallas found the back of the net in the 24th minute on a penalty kick from Ziegler. Jose Bizama fouled Dominque Badji in the box as the Dallas striker was going for a header on a cross.

Four minutes later Ferreira scored his seventh of the season as he drove through the Houston defense. Ondrasek laid the ball off to Ferreira around midfield and the Dallas Homegrown dribbled through two defenders before firing a shot at the top of the penalty box past Joe Willis.

Dallas added an insurance goal in the 57th minute from Ondrasek. Barrios played Ryan Hollingshead down the left wing past a pair of Houston defenders. The veteran full back crossed the ball into the box where Ondrasek was able to stretch out and kick the ball into the back of the net.

Ondrasek doubled his tally in the 64th minute on a similar sequence as his first goal. Badji dribbled the ball into the left side of the penalty box before dishing the ball off to Ondrasek who redirected the cross past Willis.

The Dynamo drew one goal back in the 80th minute from Memo Rodríguez.

In the dying moments of the game, Barrios found himself free in the penalty box where he was able to completely put the game away with a goal of his own.

Instant Reaction: While the first 20 minutes or so were all Houston, Dallas settled into this game and really looked good once they got the penalty. Once again we saw Dallas go wide in their attack and find success with the two goals from Cobra.

Man of the Match: It is hard not to give it to a guy like Cobra who had the two goals and assist, but it is also hard not to give a nod to guys like Barrios, Hollingshead, Ziegler and Matt Hedges. It felt like a team win tonight all over.

What’s next for FC Dallas: The guys stay home for one more week as they wrap up the month of August with their first meeting against expansion side FC Cincinnati.
