FC Dallas lost and regained the lead three times in a 5-3 win on Saturday night over Minnesota Untied.
Dallas got two goals from Brandon Servania late in the match after Reggie Cannon, Ryan Hollingshead and Santiago Mosquera also contributed on the big offensive night. Michael Barrios and Paxton Pomykal had three assists on night as well.
Minnesota found the opener ten minutes into the match after some poor clearances by the Dallas defense. Jesse Gonzalez set up the play as he poorly cleared the ball out of the penalty box that Miguel Ibarra picked up and tried to put a shot on frame that Matt Hedges would stop. The ball got sent back in by Rasmus Schuller that was deflected and landed right at Ethan Finlay’s feet. The Minnesota midfielder was free to fire a shot that beat Gonzalez for the game’s first goal.
Dallas responded with two quick goals halfway through the first half. In the 28th minute, Barrios dribbled into the box and dished it off to Hollingshead who ripped a shot to the top of the goal past Vito Mannone. Four minutes later Mosquera put in a shot from distance that floated over Mannone to the far post to give Dallas the lead.
The two sides traded goals right before halftime. In the 41st minute Finlay scored his second goal of the game on another chip over Gonzalez. This Dallas got the lead back in the 44th minute as Cannon was played into the box by Barrios. The Homegrown defender put a shot to the near post that trickled past Mannone.
Minnesota found their next equalizer in the 73rd minute from Hassani Dotson. Lawrence Olum found Dotson and who dribbled through two Dallas defenders before firing a shot to the far post past Gonzalez.
Dallas regained the lead in the 85th minute on a goal from Servania. Paxton Pomykal drove the ball deep into the Minnesota defensive third before dishing it wide to Barrios. The veteran winger crossed the ball across the mouth of the goal were Servania was there to tap it in.
Servania scored a second one in stoppage time as Pomykal dribbled along the end line before dishing it to the back post where Servania was there for the easy tap in.
Instant reaction: Well...that was something. Luchi Gonzalez went for it with his lineup selection tonight. While Dominque Badji struggled up top the rest of the attack seemed to find their way more with Pomykal and Ferreira in the midfield together. Defensively though you do want to see things tightened up a bit more with the backline and Gonzalez. Still, this was a win this group needed.
Man of the Match: Just pick anyone between Barrios, Pomykal, Bryan Acosta or Jesus Ferreira on the night. Servania is a nice nod just given the two late goals too.
What’s next for FC Dallas: A busy week is on tap for Luchi Gonzalez next week as his club will travel on Wednesday to California to battle the LA Galaxy. Then on the weekend they’ll head north for a weekend game against the Montreal Impact.
