Workhorse of the Week vs. Vancouver and Portland

A tough week all around with a single point across two matches. Which player will earn your vote?

MLS: FC Dallas at Portland Timbers Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

Congrats to youngster Paxton Pomykal, edging out competitors for the Workhorse of the Week last week.

Two Games, One Point

Yeah...

At home on Wednesday night, FC Dallas controlled and dominated the visiting Vancouver Rapids in a convincing, clear, concise manner... until they didn't. The last ten minutes of that match are ones they are going to want back. You can blame youth and inexperience. You can blame missed starters. You can blame the crowd. Whatever.

FC Dallas should have easily had three points in the bag, instead settling for one after a furious Vancouver rally.

At Portland, no one was feeling like FC Dallas was destined to sneak into enemy territory and grab some points, but the squad didn't play that bad and managed to get their legs under them over the second half of the match. The chances were there. Jesus Ferreira and Michael Barrios just missed that extra little touch. Once again, is it youth? Is it a team still figuring out their identity? Did Dominique Badji’s awful night doom their potential?

I don’t know, and while I am very disappointed over this team’s results this past week, I’m actually still feeling kind of positive about their overall work rate, tactics, opportunities generated, adjustments, and team chemistry. This does not look like FC Dallas squads of previous years. Paxton Pomykal, Jesus Ferreira, and Brandon Servania are presenting problems that teams need to contend with. It could be that the squad lacks one or two pieces to really take the next step in addition to continued growth of this young side.

Who will you vote for?

I started this article thinking I was going to moan and complain, but I can’t stay mad at FC Dallas. Even after a loss, seeing Ricardo Pepi get minutes makes my heart soar. The future is bright. The playoff race is going to get tighter, and FC Dallas could end up longing to have those missed points at home back. For now, though, they continue to have everything to play for.

Vote for your top player from this past week’s action.

(Remember - if a player went the full 90 in either match, they are eligible to vote. Sorry to Bryan Acosta who was excellent in his sub appearance Sunday night.)
