FC Dallas vs Minnesota United: Highlights, stats and quote sheet

All the stats from the 1-0 loss in Minnesota.

FC Dallas came up short on their mission for three points in Minnesota Saturday night, losing 1-0.

FC Dallas head coach Luchi Gonzalez

On his general thoughts on tonight’s game…“It hurts. It hurts because it felt like we did a lot of good things. I’m very proud of the group, I thought we pushed in the way that we approached the game. Of course it wasn’t perfect, a game never is, but our ideas were there and our intentions were there to push the game, to create, to push forward, to get numbers forward, get shots, get crosses, have transitions with pressure moments. That’s a good team, Minnesota. They fought to the end and got their goal. This is one that hurts because this was one that we came into with a plan to win the game. It almost resulted in a draw, but we didn’t play for a draw, we play to win. Thats how we approach things. We fell short there at the end, we had the PK opportunity. It takes courage to try to do what our boys tried to do tonight. We’re going to keep working this way, because I feel like we’re going to win more games than lose.”

On what he saw with the chemistry in the backline tonight…“This has been a complete roster, in terms of available pieces. It’s good to have Reggie [Cannon] back and quickly integrate, I thought he had a positive performance tonight. The backline was good, I don’t think we gave up too much. Jesse didn’t have too much to do, and the little he had to do he was very good. Thats important, and thats credit to our backline. We’re going to keep working that way to earn shutouts, it didn’t bounce that way tonight, but it will. It will with the effort the boys put in tonight and growing from our mistakes tonight. It will.”

On how he felt the team did tonight in terms of offense and offensive pressure…“We wanted to have a lot more of the ball than them, we wanted to create more than them, even though we were away, and we did that. The next step is efficiency and putting away chances and not allowing them to put away their’s. This is a game where you can control parts of the game, have more possession, have more shots, and still lose. That’s the sport we play and that’s football. We need to turn that into points and turn that into wins.”

FC Dallas defender Reggie Cannon

On his general thoughts on the match…“Regardless of what people think or say, if we play like that in every game finishing out the season, we’re going to win a lot more points. Things didn’t fall for us tonight, that goal didn’t come our way, we dominated the game, had more shots. The game just didn’t fall our way and that’t football. Like Luchi said, he’s very proud of us, obviously we’re very disappointed not to get three points out of this, but we just have to put away our chances, it happens. That’s the game.”

On how it felt to be back following the Gold Cup being a part of the backline again…“It’s good, it’s just a completely different environment. The MLS is just a hybrid league, it’s a different feel. I’m very excited to be back and to help these guys, and I feel I played my heart out tonight like every other game. I believe in this group, I believe things will start falling our way, it’s just a matter of time.”

FC Dallas Edwin Gyasi

On making his debut with the team tonight despite the loss tonight…“It feels great to make by debut in the MLS for FC Dallas. But as you said, the result was not what we were hoping for.”

On how he felt out there with the team…“It felt good, but unfortunately that goal came out of nowhere. I think we have to work hard to get a good result next match.”
