Dallas got their loan goal from Homegrown midfielder Brandon Servania in the loss before giving up two goals to the expansion USL side.
Luchi Gonzalez’s side controlled the first half, earning plenty of chances in their offensive end with Ricardo Pepi earning his second straight start for the club while he is on loan from North Texas SC. In the 30th minute Dominique Badji nearly found the back of the net as he got in behind a pair of defenders before putting a shot that just went wide of the goal.
The breakthrough came in the 43rd minute off a corner kick from Michael Barrios. The veteran winger played the corner out short to the edge of the box where Servania met it with a rocket of a shot that sailed past the New Mexico keeper for the game’s first goal.
New Mexico tied it up just before halftime thanks to a miscommunication with Jimmy Maurer and one of his defenders as a rebound fell straight to Kevaughn Frater, who tied it up.
The visitors found another goal in the 64th minute off a corner kick of their own. Sam Hamilton found the ball inside the six yard box and cooly put it home to take the lead.
Dallas ran out of options late after throwing in Paxton Pomykal, Pablo Aranguiz and Zdenek Ondrasek into the lineup. The best chance came in the 82nd minute as Pomykal hit a strike from 20 yards but Cody Mizell was able to keep it away.
New Mexico will now advance to the quarterfinal round where they will take on Minnesota United on July 10.
