Workhorse of the Week vs Oklahoma City Energy

MLS: U.S. Open Cup-OKC Energy at FC Dallas Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

He’s the most utilitarian man on the roster. Ryan Hollingshead earned another Workhorse nod with 15 votes last week for stepping into the midfield against San Jose.

Open Cup Begins

Last week, FC Dallas’ schedule slowed for just a bit, but they did welcome the Oklahoma City Energy into town, renewing the true Red River Rivalry. The game was a nice confidence booster for the club, as they welcomed back guys like Brandon Servania and Edwin Cerrillo. A surprise start was also given to Ricardo Pepi, who despite being 16, showed he had something to offer in this tournament and potentially going forward.

Goals from Matt Hedges, Michael Barrios, Dominique Badji, and Reto Ziegler rounded out a tidy and dominant performance. Oklahoma City never really got going, and FC Dallas looked like a team on another level from the USL side. The good news is that FC Dallas gets another competitive but lower tier opponent with New Mexico United coming into town on Wednesday for the next round of the Open Cup.

There is not a ton to take away from an Open Cup match, but I hope this team is building momentum and getting back to playing up to their potential as the second half of the season draws near.

What do you think? Does this team need these matches to build confidence for coming games?

Who will you vote for this week from the Open Cup eligible players?
